World leaders mark 25th anniversary of Srebrenica massacre

CA, 12 Jul 2020
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton and other world leaders, including Britain’s Prince Charles and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, delivered remarks on Saturday in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.

In July 1995, nearing the end of the Bosnian war, more than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were brutally executed and buried in mass graves across eastern Bosnia. Between 25,000 and 30,000 women, children and elderly were forcibly transferred and abused.

The horrific event was declared a genocide in 2004 by a unanimous ruling of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, located in The Hague.

Clinton, who was U.S. president at the time of the genocide, called it a “brazen reminder of the terrible cost to all of us when we turn our backs on our shared humanity.”
