Bloc Quebecois’ leader denies sexual misconduct allegations: “This is hell for me”

CA, 20 Jul 2020
Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves Francois-Blanchet insists that allegations of sexual misconduct that arose earlier in the week, dating back to 1999, are untrue and libelous.

“I have never acted the way that has been alleged, I have never done what was described in the Facebook post,” he told reporters in a press conference on Sunday.

The allegations were posted on July 14 to a Facebook page called “Hyènes en jupons” — or “Hyenas in skirts.” The group describes itself as a feminist collective that aims for change through disruption.

Blanchet called for an investigation into the Facebook post, which he said is defamatory. He said he has “no idea” who wrote the post or what the intention is behind the allegation.

Blanchet has been the leader of the Bloc Quebecois since January 2019.
