Trump outlines plan deploy more federal agents to U.S. cities | FULL
CA, 23 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that there would be a “surge” of federal law enforcement deployed into communities “plagued by violent crime.”
He specified officers would first be heading into Chicago to "drive down violent crime." Trump added that officers would later be deployed to other cities, like Albuquerque, New Mexico, adding some of the cities are "too proud" or "too political" to ask for help.
U.S. Attorney General William Barr reiterated Trump’s claim that the recent increase in violent crime in some cities was due to a push to defund police, saying that the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day led to an “extreme” reaction.” He also claimed the rise was the “direct result of the attack on the police forces and the weakening of police forces.”
