Alberta's Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Kaycee Madu, joined chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, to provide an update on the COVID-19 situation in the province on Friday.

On Tuesday, Premier Jason Kenney announced that the province was entering a state of public health emergency amid rising COVID-19 cases. On Thursday Dr. Hinshaw responded to leaked audio of a confidential meeting with officials recorded in June. This all comes on the same week the province saw its 500th death from coronavirus.

Thursday the province recorded 1,077 new cases of the disease and an additional 10 deaths bringing the total death count to 510 since the beginning of the pandemic.
