Family members of Rayshard Brooks spoke out at a press conference following the fatal police shooting of Brooks in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, and pleaded for justice.

The press conference ended abruptly as family members could not hold back their emotions and left the room as one of Brooks' cousins delivered a tearful tribute to Rayshard. "He was always happy. He was always smiling. And they didn't have to kill him."

"Life shouldn't be this complicated. It shouldn't be where we have to feel some type of way if we see a police or somebody of a different colour."

Atlanta police video released Sunday showing a seemingly routine sobriety check outside a Wendy’s restaurant that quickly spun out of control, ending in gunfire. The killing of the 27-year-old Black man in an encounter with two white officers late Friday led to protests in Atlanta and prompted the police chief’s resignation.

The officer that shot Brooks has been fired. Brooks' death has been ruled a homicide.
