George Floyd death: Nancy Pelosi, Democrats speak ahead of House vote on police reforms | FULL
CA, 25 Jun 2020
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass and Democratic Members spoke at a press event ahead of the House vote on the Justice in Policing Act, a sweeping proposal to address the global outcry over the death of George Floyd and other Black Americans.
The House is set to hold a day-long debate and a final vote Thursday evening on the Justice in Policing Act, perhaps the most ambitious proposed changes to police procedures and accountability in that country in decades.
The bill, which mandates concrete changes in laws and policy to rein in police misconduct, is widely expected to pass the House. But the Republican-led Senate is unlikely to agree to the measure as written after Senate Democrats blocked a Republican reform bill on Wednesday.
