India on Friday became the third country in the world to record more than one million cases of coronavirus, behind only the United States and Brazil, as infections spread further into the countryside and smaller towns.

The official number of cases in the country on Friday was listed as 1,003,832 (at the time of publish), but experts have called that quote “a gross underestimate” and has likely left out many people who may have been asymptomatic.

That compares to 3.6 million confirmed cases in the United States and 2 million in Brazil - countries with less than a third of India's population.
