Trump says "surge" of federal agents to be deployed to U.S. cities "plagued by violent crime"
CA, 23 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that there would be a “surge” of federal law enforcement deployed into communities “plagued by violent crime.”
He specified officers would first be heading into Chicago to "drive down violent crime." Trump added that officers would later be deployed to other cities, like Albuquerque, New Mexico, adding some of the cities are "too proud" or "too political" to ask for help.
Trump also claimed, without providing evidence, the recent “spike in murders and shootings in major cities” was due to an effort to “shut down policing.”
