Atlanta mayor to sign administrative orders to implement police reforms concerning use of force
CA, 16 Jun 2020
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced on Monday that she would be signing administrative orders to call on the chief operating officer to coordinate with the interim police chief to adopt and implement reforms of the standard operating procedures and work rules of the Atlanta Police Department (APD) concerning use-of-force policies.
She said it will include addressing response to resistance regarding use of deadly force “in accordance with the principle” police should only use the amount of objectively reasonable force to protect themselves, arrest or bring an incident under control.
The mayor also said she would be signing an administrative order to convene a body to “begin to succinctly articulate our grievances” and what is seen as solutions in terms of human rights.
