Pakistan’s mango production is expected to take a massive hit in 2022 because of the effects of climate change, according to an industry group, which predicts as much as a 50 per cent drop in production. The All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association said a persistent heatwave and severe water shortages are to blame after summer temperatures soared as early as March in 2022. The individual fruits harvested have also been smaller than normal, said association officials. A major mango exporter, Pakistan has cut its export target for 2022 to 125,000 tonnes, a 25,000-tonne reduction from the previous year. Pakistan is also one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change.
